My name is Hao Yan. I am now pursuing my Ph.D. in Computer Science at George Mason University. I am interested in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. I am currently working on a project related to controlled text generation. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Information Engineering from Fujian Normal University in 2017 and my master’s degree in Computer Science from George Mason University in 2020. In my spare time, I like doing sports such as basketball and swimming. I also like traveling and photography.

Hi! I am a Ph.D. researcher at George Mason University under the guidance of Prof. Ziyu Yao. I received my master’s degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna (IIT-P) where I worked with Professor Pushpak Bhattacharyya in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP). After obtaining my MS degree, I joined TCS research to gain industrial experience in NLP and have worked on projects to create conversational agents that provided aid in various professional activities at TCS research. My research interests are Question-Answering (QA), Dialogue Systems, Knowledge graphs using tools from graph theory, and representation learning. Recently I am focused on understanding the human-machine interaction, specifically in a conversational setting where the system tries to understand and answer the user queries. In addition to this, I am also interested in Natural Language Generation which can aid a QA system to provide natural language response (e.g., with less ambiguity, fewer grammatical mistakes, etc.).
